Characteristics
Plants
bushy or in large diffuse masses, from 2-3cm in length to a few decimeters,
attached by rhizoids below, the longer filaments sometimes stranded
together, branching abundant, alternate or second, main axes to 35-50
micron diameter, the cells 2-3 diameters long, in the branches to
15-20 micron diameter, older cells with discoid chromatophores, branches
often with hairlike tips, sporangia rare, reported to be sessile,
oblong, 25-45 micron diameter. 60-80 micron long, gametangia polymorphic,
sessile in series on the upper side of the branches, elliptic oblong
to linear - cylindrical, markedly obtuse at the apex, 20-30 micron
diameter, 50-150 micron long, the meiosporangia with cells about 6-7
micron wide. The cells in the megasporangia 10-17 micron wide.
